A complaint against the Hoard. — Tho CHAiRMAN-read the- following- letter ffonri Mr. G. Floyd :— To the Waste Lands Board— ■ Genttemen,f-Haying heard in ■yVellingtop that land whs'ready for sale in this Province for cash and on deferred payments, I have been tempted .hero to inspect, with tho inteution of purchasing land. I have been to the Moa Block, and liking the look of the land, bought one rural section; and being nt the same time anxious to take.up an adjoining section under the deferred payment system, I was told that the Land .Board had decided agaiust parting with any more land on the deferred payment system, and therefore my application could not bo entertained. That, was ■a! great ' disappointment to me, < 4nd | knowing that, numbers of imy friends' who 5 are coming from Wellington expecting to bo able to take up land on deferred payments, on my'tellihg- I tynithero l iß nd' deferred payment Jand to be got, J any afraid they will Ue prevented from coming ; and as they aro mfln who wUI make good settlers, /it jw.i]l really be a loss to the Provihde. ' ' I was much! surprised, too, to iiud that there 'waa rid land ready' for sale in tho township of Tnglewood. I made application^ and was told that. l Bhould haveto wait about sLx weeks, before Jhero .would .bo i au^'ready, and that then lixe sections would have to bo put up for sale by auction. ""£ was prepared to buy a soOtlbn for myself,"«nti^ somei|or!,my frienos, ,whoini:l expect l herjS shortly. If I could have got one evea for myself, I should at ouco have commenced, to i put up a small place 'for' myself 1 a'nSJia'hiiW to live in, and then I should' haVebeen' ready eavly ifr the.-spring to commence! work on my ' section of, rural land.- , I should like to get.thje sections now applied for as eoou aS possible, as I am at present'obliged'tb live in"'a J t'em;. G. Floyd.

New Plymouth, August 18, 1876. ( The Chairman said that, tiie letter, required some .d^pldnation.- ' On ' Thursday Mr! He (Mr. Whitcpmbe) directed their attention to the' fUct iKat'the Board had' decided not to set aside more than a third of each, block on the .deferred -payment system, and they liad all been taken up. Mr. Floyd then took lip a cash' section,' and' asked also for an allotment in the ; tpyfnahip as he wished to put-up a cottage on'it'far.jbja.family. He told him that the ones he |pointed out were swampy, and that he had better go and 1 see' them himself before he- (purchased*: and then Y^vhenjhs had fixed upon oue.jf he, it, could be put up with the other allotments on the 4th September. The question of land being set aside on deferred payment was again referred to, and Mr. Hulko said if the Board did not choose to open more land on deferred payment he would take the public opinion on it. He (Mr. Whitcombe) said they were hound by the Act, and until another block was thrown open they could not Bet apart any more.r-Mr. Standish said that ' if larger quantities' were offered on the deferred payment system it would lead to speculation, for already allotments were changing hands almost weekly. — Mr. Crompton said the land was not offered on deferred payments for those who had cash to pay.~ Mr. Whitcombe said the system of deferred payments was merely to enable working men to get land, on easy terms Of paymcut ; and -not for those who had cash to take it up. The matter had already been 1 referred to in tho Budget, and Mr. Hulke had apparently ,got it to appear., He, (Mr. "Whitconibe), thiuking, that sfrcli'false statements" should not go uu- , contradicted, had sent a few statements across ' to the News, refuting'lihH.samq.'^Mri/BTANdisu said the chairman answer )tho f letter, nnd explain the .master.— The , subiect* dropped. - ''"''. — 1 '' r lLand sold during thcwceli. — The Chairman' said the sales of land "dating' the last' week 'amounted to £565. . , ' ' Piwi>ig-.Mlotnicnts.-ftT\^ 80/ird then , .pro-, ceede'd to price several, allotments in 'the ! jtownship of Inglewood, w'Wch were ordered to be sold by auction on the 25th September.
