WELLINGTON.
April 29. — Re initiating a system of storm signals by the Commissioner of Customs, the requisite instructions were taken for the North Island to-day by the 'Lady Bird.' The whole scheme is expected to be in working order early next month.
The Provincial Government land sale realised £7,458. The Wanganui land realised £3 per acre ; the Mastodon £3 10s. ; some of the Palmerston sections fetobed £30 per half acre.
Net result that the land fetched over 20 per cent, more than upset price.
The Wellington Provincial Council was opened on 30th April by the Superintendent, at three o'clock. The Superintendent made a long speech. He said the actual revenue showed a considerable increase over the estimated revenue. He condemned the action of the General Government regarding the auditor fiasco as .uncalled for. In conclusion, he said the Council had decided to oonfiue their borrowing this year within the most moderate limits.
