THE HON. MR. GISBORNE.
As there is a requisition in course of signature, requesting this gentleman to be nominated a^ a enndidate to rppros.-ns the District of Egmont iv the House of Representatives, it is but natural that the electors should wish to know something respecting him. The following extract which we take from an nltra-opposition journal gives a very good idea of the character of tho Hon. Mr. Gisborue, and coming from the source it does', cannot bo said to bo in any way biased. The Wellington Evening Post remarks :—": — " It is not often that we can honestly indulge in th» luxury of congratulating ilio Government on any of its aots, but Mr. Gisborne certainly docs deserve credit for what ha has done iv iho matter of the Wairarapa Railway Line. Tho prompiitude with which Messrs. Rochofori. and Blaukett were set to work to explore ihj lino has been justly rewarded by an almost unhoped for discovery — that of an easy practicable railway route across the Rimutaka. It is almost impossible to overrate the importance to Wellington of this discovery. It is, indeed, a successful initiation of his rule as Minister of Public Works that Mr. Gisborne should have had this discovery made wßhin a fuw days of his assuming office, aud that he should himself be one of the first to traverse the new line."
