Mails will be closed at the Chief Post Office, Brougham-street, as follows :—: — For Wanganui and Wellington, per s.s. ' Ran-gatira,'-this day, at 10 a.m. For Auckland and Northern Ports, per b.s. ' Phoebe,' on Thursday, at 10 a.m.
A Queer Speech. — In reviewing the financial itatement, Mr. Jollie said :— Let them look to a great work which was urgently required, and that whs the erection of proper buildings for the reception of their felons. (Oh, oh.) The improvement of their harbours, and the creation of harbour* of refuge for their destitute, was anotlwr important u-ork ichivh might to be taken in hand. Then let them build a colonial lunatic asylum. (Laughter). Honorable gentlemen might laugh, bnt it was very much wanted. (Renewed laughter.)
