Taranaki Herald Ofßoe,

Taesday, March 29, 1870. On Monday last we received onr portion of the English mail, which gives intelligence from England via Suez to 28th January, and by telegram vid Galle to 16th February. Our mail has therefore been exactly fifty-six days or two calendar months in transit, and by telegram we are brought within forty-one days' communication with London. The opening of the route vid California, however, will reduce the time of the delivery of our mail to forty-one days, and we shall have news from England, by the Atlantio cable, within twenty-six days.

Mrs. Yems (for whom Mr. Bennett acted) held a sale of cattle and sheep on Wednesday last, which realised the following prices : — Cows, £3, £4 2s. 6d., £5, £4 2s. 6d., £5 55., £4, £5 55., £4 7s. 6d., £11 ; steers, £4 10s., £4 2s. 6d., £5 2s. 6d., £5 55., £4, £5, £o, £5 2s. 6d., £5; heifers, £4 12s. 6d., £4, £5, £4 17s. 6d., £5, £4 17s. 6d., £5 10s. £5 55., £5, £5 55., £4 7s. 6d., £4 10s., £4 17s. 6d., £4 10s., £5 2s. 6d., £4 10s., £os., £7, £7 10s. ; sheep, 14s. 9d ; rams, £2, £l 10s., £1 10s.

Amongst the produce shipped for the Southern ports, we notice three sacks of flax seed. This is a new article of export, and is well worthy of record, being the first that has been sent from this Province.

This season there have been 235 bales of wool shipped from this port, being 75,445 lbs., which may be estimated to be worth about £3,000.

The New Zealand flax shipped from this port since the first mill was started, amounts to 72 tons 3 owt., and about the same quantity i 3 now on hand ready for sending away.
