Takaxaki Declared a "Disturbed District."—ln a Gazette dated the llth March, thero is iv proclamation by which this Province is declared to be a " Disturbed District," within the meauingofthe second clause of " The Colonial Forces Court Martial Act, 1863," and consequently tho officer commanding has power to close all public-houses if he thinks it necessary. An offer to Settle the war. I—The1 — The following extraordinary statement appears inthe Wanganui Herald but ivhich the Government organ denies : — " We have it upon good authority that the Ngatiporou offered to come to this coast, 1,000 strong, and settle the war, if the Govommeut would agree to give them all the Hauliaus they took as slaves. The Government objected to this, and the proposal was declined."
