PETITIONS TO THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
We publish below the result of the petitions that were forwarded to the House of Representatives from this Province during the last session. Thp Central Cmoict Prison. — This petition was presented by Major Atkiuson, and referred to the Publio Petition Committee, who reported to the House "that the decision of the matter mooted by the petitioners rested with the Executive, and •they did not deem it necessary to offer any saggenMon to the House on the subject." Imprisonment for debt under £10.— The petition on this subject we a presented by Major Atkinson and referred to the Petition Committee, who reported that it rested with the House to determine whether the law required any modification or not, and that they had no suggestions to offer on the subject. Punishiieiit to the perpetrattrs of the murders at Patea. — This petition was presented by Major Atkinson and referred to the Petition Committee, who reported that they did not deem it necessary to offer any soggesiiou to tho House on tbo subject. The Mountain Road. — This petition was presented by Major Aikiopoii und roportea on by the Chairman of thii Petition Committee as follows :—": — " I am din-ctpd to observe that the (measures suggested by the petitioners would [doubtless do more to restore peace and order in 'the Province of Taramiki than any other coiirstT; bat the petitioners do not suggest the source whence the npccsßary outlay could be obtained, and consequently the Committee do not deem it necessary io offjr any suggestion to the House on the subject."
