TAURANGA.
William Thompson, we learn from good authority, is 'At present at Tapuna, and has sent a letter to Coloner Gveer, stating that if the troops remain at Te Papa, and do not interfere with him, or make any movement against the Pai Marires now in the neighbourhood of Maketu, he will not molest them. He states that ho is himself going to fight at Maketu. If any of these conditions are infringed ho threatens to attack the garrison. Tho rebel natives are building a lai'go pa opposite M'akotu, also another about fifteen miles across from* To Papa. They k say, however, that they are doing so for the protection of themselves against the Arawas. A number of the- Taiu?|ißfa natives have left' for Maketu, and .many more are about leaving. , ' There is a talk nevertheless, of removing the camp to Tapnna, as being more healthy for the troops, several vory serious cases of fever having occurred amongst them. We are glad to hear that Mrs. Grecr is recovering from hor late illness. — New Zealand Herald, April 28.
