Bteam to the North.— We are glad to be able to state that the Provincial Government have concluded arrangements with the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company for running one of that company's steamers once a week to the Boy of Islands, calling at all intermediate northern ports. The arrangement likewise includes a weekly hip to and from Coromandel. The subsidy for this accommodation is small. The arrangement, we understand, has boon concluded on terms favourable to the Province, and we may soon hope to see the new steam service commenced. We wonld suggest to the Wellington company the propriety of turning their attention to the West Coast as well. The great estuary of the Kaipara, with its fine navigable rivers and growing importance, ought not to be lost sight of. Hokianga is also becoming a place of greater importance than hitherto; and to the south of the Manukau we have the rising port of Waikato, and the beautiful land-locked harbour of Whaingaroa. These ports are the natural outlets to large tracts of country," and will soon, we are convinced,'be frequented by vessels from all parts 6f the world. — 'Daily Southern Cross.'
