SAILED.

Feb. 16. — Wonga Wonga (s.s.), Renner, for Wanganui. Passengers — Messrs Foreman, Treweek, Dawson, Smith, Rowlands, Laing, Martin, Tame, and Coleman. Feb. 17.— H.M.S.S. Fawn, for Manukau. Feb. 22.— H.M.5.5. Cordelia, 11 guns, ' Commander Hume, for Nelson. Feb. 22. — Kate Kearney, schooner, for Sydney. Commodore Seymour arrived in Auckland by the Fawn, and on Monday, at 9 a.m. hoisted his broad pendant at the main of the Pelorus. There is a whisper afloat that the gallant Commodore is likely, before long, to substitute a red for his present blue pendant. Should this be so, he will, of course, be entitled to the same emoluments and privileges as those of a Rear- Admiral. The Commodore follows the usual piactice of flag ships, noting time by the customary morning aud evening gun. — New Zealander, Feb. 20. ' H.M.S. Iris, 26 guns, Captain Vernon, with the Governor on board, arrived from her cruise to the Bay of Islands and Mongonui on Monday, at 330 a.m. The order for the return of this ship to England is once more held in abeyance. — Ibid. H.M. steam corvette Niger, 13 guns, Captain Cracroft, has received orders to proceed from Manukau to New Plymouth forthwith, for which place she is to embark 250 officers, non-eomnussioned officers, and soldiers of the 57th Regt., under the command of Major Logan. This will leave about 40 of this gallant corps behind. The 57th Regt. will parade this morning, in the Albert Banack Square, at 8 o'clock, from whence they will march across to Onehunga, there to embark in the Niger, which will sail about 2 p.m. Commodore Seymour returns, by the same opportunity, to the seat of war. It is probable that the Niger will remain for some time off the Taranaki coast. Last week, a melancholy death by drowning took place iv the person of one of the seamen of this ship named Griffith, a fine young man and a general favourite. He was assisting to anchor one of the ship's boats when he unfortunately fell overboard : it was at first supposed that he had been dragged over, and the anchor was subsequently weighed, but without effect. The body was recovered in about an hour, and interred in the Churchyard of Onehunga on Sunday last, amidst the general regrets, and followed by a large concourse of his sorrowing shipmates. A considerable quantity of shot, shell, and gunpowder, has

been shipped on board the Niger for Taranaki, — Ibid. Naval Movements. — The following movements in the ships of the New Zealand squadron are about to take place : — H.M. ship Iris, 26 guns, Captain Vernon, will proceed to Wellington on her return from the Bay of Islands ; H.M. steam sloop Fawn, 17 guns, Commander Cator, will proceed from Wellington to Manukau, where she relieves H.M. steam I sloop Cordelia, 11 guns, Commander Hume, which comes round to Auckland. — Auckland Register, February 18. The favourite ship Zealandia, Captain Foster, arrived from Gravesend, after a somewhat tedious passage of a hundred and five days, on Wednesday evening, having sailed on the first November. She brings a general cargo and 135 passengers. — Ibid.
