PUBLIC MEETING.

It will be seen by an announcement in our advertising column 1 !, that a public meeting will be held at the Odd Fellows' Hall, on Thursday evening, at 7 o'clock, for the purpose of adopting a Memoilal to the Governor with reference to the insuriection at Taranaki. This will not be a party meeting, and, if we are rightly informed, its sole object is to let His Excellency and his advisers know that the views of out members in the House of Representatives, with reference to the unfortunate outbreak at Taranaki, aie not paiticipated in by their constituents. The course puisued by our representatives has been well calculated to cause that trifling with the war, and consequently with the lives and properties of the settlers, which we have had to deplore. It will be geneially conceded that whatever influence they might exercise at Auckland, be it much or little, has been inimical to the vigorous suppression of the existing rebellion ; but that influence, in this particular instance so unfortunately directed, will bo consideiably weakened or destioyed if it becomes known at head quarters that, on this bubject, they do not represent their constituents.

Taranaki Relief. — The Committee forafford. ing relief to the combatants at Taranaki, and the non-combatants who have been lemoved to Nelson, ha\e succeeded in raising £050 for that praiseworthy object.
