The Taranaki Herald.
NEW PLYMOUTH, MARCH 12, 1859.
H.M.S. Iris, 26 guns, Captain Loring, C.8., arrived in port on Sunday having on board His Excellency the Governor, attended by Captain Steward, Private Secretary. His Excellency left the frigate under a salute, and on landing was received by the Officer commanding the Troops and a guard of honor. A salute was fired by the Royal Artillery when His Excellency reached the shore. The Iris left for Wellington on Monday. His Excellency the Governor held an undicss Levee at the Council Chamber on Tuesday. The notice was short, and the weather wet, and many outsettlers were thereby prevented paying their respects to His Excellency. We regret to announce that the Governor was taken very unwell on Tuesday night, so much so as' to be unable to attend several meetings of the Natives. His Excellency, we are happy to add, is progressing favorably, and was enabled to receive a deputation yesteiday.
