COMMERCIAL.

WOOL CIRCULAR. London, Ist December, 1858. The public sales of colonial wool, which commenced on the 4th ultimo, closed th s evening. There have been catalogued :— 53,708 bales Colonial i 1,144 bales German! 636 bales Buenos Ayres; 489 bales Russian,- 458 bales sundries, and 1057 ballots Peruvian. In October it was evident that an increased demand for goods was inducing great activity in the home manufacturing districts, and expectations were rife that a further rise in the value of wool must ensuei these have been fully confirmed, and throughout this series the eagerness to stock has been un • jihated, but more spirit has been shown by home than foreign purchasers. The latter have operated to some extent, but not nearly so largely as they would have done but for the advanced rates realised. Prices have been tolerably uniform throughout at an advance upon previous rates of 2d. to 3d. per lb. on full stapled combing, middle Australian and scoured wool. New Zealand wool, of which there was a fair Supply, waß in good demand, and some clean combing flocks realised such satisfactory prices as must prove an encouragement for growers to give their attention more to this description ; many flocks, are still much mixed with grease, and great attention to even packing is necessary to induce the trade to purchase with more confidence.
