Steam Communication. — It affords us much pleasure to learn that a fresh agreement has been entered into by the General Government with Mr. Kirkwood, the owner of the White Swan, and that that fine and commodious vessel is immediately to take her station on the East Coast, sailing from Auckland, vid Napier to 'Wellington; from Wellington to Lyttelton and Otago; thence back to Wellington ; from Wellington to Nelson, and so by Napier and the East Coast to Auckland. The White Swan will take her final departure from Manukau for the South on her next return, and after making her inter-provincial voyage will take up her station in the Waitemata. This, in our humble judgment, as far as Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton and Otago are concerned, is a great and manifest improvement, and we have no doubt will be conducive to the enhanced prosperity of the several ports embraced in this line. As such, we heartily wish it the most ample measure of success. — New Zealander. The Airedale is to sail for Canterbury in a few weeks. She is the fourth steamer for the New Zealand postal service. She has just arrived from the Mediterranean, where she has been engaged v a yacht by Lord Cardigan. She is represented as having great speed and power, and will be a fitting companion to the thiee pioneers — Lord Ashley, Lord Worsley, and Prince Alfred — which have already jailed for the tame service. — Home News. The North Star ship and Industry barque have been purchased for New Zealand proprietors. Both vessels are fitting for the conveyance of sheep, each taking about 2000 head. On arrival at their destination, these vessels are intended for coal hulks for the supply of the steam service on the New Zealand coast. — Melbourne Argus.
