Piiorosrn Ujfle Coups for. New Plymouth. — On the 15th instant a Meeting took place at Mr. Black's Room, Doctor Wilson in the chair, for the puipose of forming a Kiflc Corps for the protection of the settlement, and icioliitinns were passed appointing a Committee to wait on the Superiniendcnt for his approval, and to ascertain whether he could hold out any hopes of assistance from the I'lovincial Government; and further, to lrqucst his Honor would authouse the tiaining to arms. Another Committee v,as also appointed to draw up tempoiary regulations. Application having been made to his Honor by the ComimttPi', it was found that he did not considei lie had power to anthoiise the training to aims. 1 1 is Honor, however, promised to endeavour .to obtain the sanction of His Excellency, and to obtain his npproval of a giant of money in aid. On the 22nd instant a second meeting was held to receive the leport of the Committees, when it was lesolved that until the receipt of his Honors reply, it would not be proper to draw up any laws, or take any fuithei steps beyond eniolling the names of those who weie willing to become members of the Corps. A laige number of names were given in the room, and we learn the lists have since received large additions. We had intended to have dealt more at large upon the propiicty of the establishment of a force of this kind in the Province, but the business of the Council luns this week to so groat length, that we aie, for the picsent, prevented doing so. However, our position as regards our native neighbours, and the danger we share in common with the other dependencies of the Crown from the common enemy, have aheady pressed themselves on public attention, and to a certain extent forestalled observation. We shall at an early date return to the subject, and, meanwhile, recommend that the time that will elapse between the present and the arrival of the steamer should be tinned to the best advantage in seconding bis Honor's application to Head Quarters.
