The Taranaki Herald. " Open to All—lnfluenced by None." NEW PLYMOUTH, NOVEMBER 8, 1854.
By the Nelson we have received our files of the papers of the Southern Provinces, but the extent of the matter compels us to postpone our summary to next week. We notice in a Supplement to the Wellington Independent, Oct. 18, the following paragraph — The Unemployed,— W. A. Orr thai writes to tty Editor of l lie " Argus "—I was much itruck jntcrdny afternoon, whilst riding; home, when my friend Mr. Cnirns informed me that " two hundred ii f the paisongers lately arrived by ihn Fitzjamos bad ttken psssagos to return home;" md also when convening in tho evening with the builder «t present employed by mo, he told me that lately not fewer than 500 masons were unable to obtain employment at their trade, about 200 of them being engaged breaking itonea for the road ; the remain" dtr could find no employment whatever. A private letter from Wellington aaya — " During the past week Potatoes have arrived here in large quantities, people apparently have been holding back for exorbitant prices, are now getting frightened, as, the season is far advanced shippeis have declined buying and our market is consequently glutted."
