Prom the Wellington papers brought by the Steamer Nelson we learn the arrival of the Balnaguith, one of Messrs. Young & Co.'s Line, from London via Lyttelton. She sailed from Plymouth on the 29th December last, and experienced throughout the passage, one hundred and sixteen days, to Lyttelton, very heavy weather. It was intended that she should have proceeded to Auckland first, but having come south about, and being m want of water she was compelled to put into Lyttelton. The Balnaguith had sixty-five passengers, of whom about thirty-four were landed at Lyttelton, and the greater part of the remainder were expected to remain at Wellington.

It will be seen from the papers received by this arrival, that F. D. BntL, Esq., Crown Land Commissioner for the Province of Wellington, has been called to the Legislative Council by his Excellency the Officer administering the Government- Also that that Gentleman has been re-elected by the electors of the Wairarapa district on his appointment to the Provincial Executive of Wellington Province.

The news of the disallowance of the Superintendent's Absence Act passed by the Wellington Provincial Council had been received by the Heather Bell from Sydney which arrived on the 28th of April, being the latest intelligence from Auckland; Remarking on this occurrence the Spectator writes — " The incident serves to illustrate very forcibly the want of communication between Auckland and the other Provinces, and the absolute necessity of establishing steam communication between the different Provinces at any cost." On the disallowance of the Act, the same journal remarks — " It will serve to shew, however, the absurdity of the attempt which has been made here and at Canterbury by the Superintendents of these two provinces to act

m a double capacity. To be at once the head of the Executive of the Province and a member of the Legislative body, situations which under the Constitution Act are generally considered to be quite incompatible wi th each other."
