Smith, brewer, of Nelson, lias this week met hit death under the following painful circumsta ice. On Wednesday last, about fuur o'clock in the nfter noon, Mr, Smith wiu iti/ liis hop garden, and thu women engaged in hop-pirking having threatened to put him m one of the bins, he laid himself down on the ground, when tour of ths women lif ed him vo n bin, but while one of tlieni Wif cng taed in throwing sonr* hops on his face, her compH'iion* tumbled her iv upon Mr. Smith, mid, falling upon him heavily, she struck him in the lower pirt (if his stomach, and c.iused un internal contusion. The deceased thrn went home and sent for Medical a^istnnce, but deplorable to statp, he died \ esterday ' morning' a< half past nine "'clock. An inquest nut last evening on the bod}', but lio seriou 8 blame seems lo bo attache] lo any of the parties. The serious turn which the accident took may in part be attributed to tlie stout full habit of the deceased. Mr. Smith was a man much respected here and was one of the most enterprising of our settlers. —Examiner, April 9th 1853.
