The "Shepherdess" arrived on Saturday last from Port Nicho'son, with a mail; but having left that place a fortnight prior, she brings no later papers than the Overland Mail, which came in the same morning. In Wellington, as in Auckland, the election of Superintendent, and the Land Sales Regulations, divide public attention. The Independent of the 20th ultimo, con^ tains a requisition to Dr. Featherston^ which has 500 signatures appended to it, requesting him to stand for Superintendent, Nothing has yet been heard of the Eng-
lish ships overdue. The papers received are principally occupied by matters of local interest, a few extracts of which <vi)l be found in another part of our journal.
