COROMANDEL GOLD FIELD.
Our contemporary the Southern Cross, in calling attention to several letters from Gold diggers in this district, says, " Theie practical and experienced persons have spo ken to us in confident te rms of the great inherent riches of our auriferous teritory. They have insisted that space and unrestricted permission to prospect is all that v requisite to render Coromandel equal to most of the Australian diggings. The natives, they siy, are anxious to afford them every facility; Alas! Is the Government bo incapable that it can do nothing to replenish the Colonial Treasury ?— lt is a lamentable thing that gold, which can be had for the digging, cannot be made available became Government and the natives cannot' come to teims, and because Government will not suffer the miners (who can) to en er into arrangement of the utI most consequence to the Colonial weal.
