The kingdom of Pegu was conqueied by the Burmese in 1757. It is rich in natural rcsottrccs. It has splendid forests of ilufinest teak timber, which forms its staple export. It exports likewise catechu, wax, Inc, ivory, cotton, gold, gems, poiries ; and even under the present wretched Government the trade amounts in value to about £600,000.
