News reached Southampton by telegraph that the Emigration Commissioners had decided upon making that port a Government depot for emigrants going to the British co» lonies, and a port of departure for ships employed in this service. It is understood that the terms on which the Commissions have accepted the tender of the London and : South-western Railway Company for constituting Southampton an emigration station are, that a depot capable of accommodating 2000 emigrants is to he built at the London terminus and iv the Southampton docksThis would afford great advantages, and practically London would still be the central starting-point for emigrants.
