TO THE ELECTORS OF THE PROVINCE OF NEW PLYMOUTH. jTi ENTLEMEN,— Having been cnlled VX upon by the Taranaki Constitutional Association toailowmyself to be nominated for the office of Superintendent, for the Province of New Plymouth, under an act recently arrived, granting a Representative Constitution to this colony, I again appear before you as a Candidate for your suf-' frames. From the unanimous manner in which you expressed your confidence in me, on my return to the Provincial Legislative Council as your Representative, and trusting thnt the endeavours I have made to retain it since that period have not been unsuccessful, I fee) no hesitation in acceding to the wishes of so large a body of my fellow settlers. My opinions having undergone no change since I last addressed you, it is needless for me to allude to them further — this only I would impress on you, that on your choice it depends whether the change we are about to malco from perfect despotism to the henefits of Representative Institutions shall be an effective one. With you, and with the gentlemen who have kindly consented to act as my Committee I leave the result. And remain, Gentlemen, Your most obedient servant, CHARLES BROWN. New Plymouth, Dec. 6, 1852. CHAHLES BROWN, Esq., FOR SUPERINTENDENT. AT a Meeting of the TaranaTci Constitutional Association, on Saturday Evening the 4th inst., the following resolu'ion was carried unanimously: — " That, from his well-known liberal pinoiplei— from 111* mlitanca to everything; in tlie tliapfi of oppression— and from hit long residence in, and know ledfffl of the wants nnrl requirements of the colony— Clnrles JJrotrn, Esq , be irqiieited to allow himself to bn pot in nomination for ths office of Superintendent of tbW Province of New Plymouth." The fo'lowing Gentlemen were formed into a Committee to give effect to the same. COMMITTEE: Mr. C ilm>in, I Mr. P.Elliot Tiittnn, I Stnrk, Glpdhill, | Richmond, Broad more, I Young, Clare, I Hulk*. With power to odd to their number from gentlemen who are not members of the association. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE PROVINCE OF NEW PLYMOUTH. f^i ENTLEMEN,— The first act which \Jf you are called upon to perform under the New Constitution is the election of a Superintendent. The limits of a brief address will 'not permit a del»il of the duties to be imposed upon that officer ; but it may be safely asserted that they will be varied, important, difficult to execute with entire satisfaction to the public, and sufficient to occupy all the lime and attention of the person who ventures to undertake them. I am, nevertheless, prepared to offer you my services as Superintendent. Though I may be deficient in ability, I possess the needed industry and resolution for the office ; nnd should you elect me, will devote myself enttfcly to the work of giving energy and effect to those Representative Institutions which aie the sole guarantee of good government. I have the honour to be, Gentlemen, Your most obedient servant, J. T. WICKSTEED. Omatt, December 0, 1862.
