(FROJL- OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Auckland, 7.30 p.m. Tiie steamer Southern Cross had a spin round the harbour to try her engines, which worked very satisfactorily. It is intended to place her on the Coromandel trade. Ceptain Sellers has been appointed commander. Captain Roberts, of the Caduceus, chartered a steamer to convey a number of friends aboard his vessel, now lying at anchor at Rangitoto. Several speeches were made, and the Captain said he expected to return with a now ship, built expressly for the Auckland trade. The Rangatira sailed to-night, with nine prisoners from Mount Eden Prison, for confinement at Dunedin. Two warders and two policemen accompany them.
