School's Earthquake Fuml Effort, A collection among the children
of the Orari School has resulted in the sum of £1 3s 2d being forwarded to the Earthquake Relief Fund. Heavy Rain at Temuka. During the rains of the last few days in the Temuka district, IG7 points of rain were recorded from early, on Thursday morning' until live o’clock last evening, according to the gauge of Mr W. Goodman, Wilkin street.
Disappointed Picnickers. Keen disappointment was felt by a very large number of school children and townspeople of Temuka when a heavy rain set in, in the early, hours of Thursday morning, necessitating the postponement of the Temuka District High School's annual picnic, which had been arranged for that day. it is understood that the picnic will now be held on March 5, at Waimate.
Visit of Christchurch Howlers, Two rinks from the Riccarton Bowling Club, which played on the Geraldine green on Thursday, gained a victory over the home side by a margin of three points. The details are (Geraldine names mentioned first):—Readdie, Paterson, Earl, Campbell (s) 11. v. MeNab, Daniels, Pollock Ford, (s) IS: Kendry, McClure, Stock, Hayes (s) 17, v. Temuka Park Cricket Club. The Tenuika Park Cricket Club will be represented in its match with Fairview, at School Park No. 1 (Timaru) this afternoon, by the following players:—Salmon, Hart, Tally, Andrews, Edwards, Gale, Jackson, Cameron, O'Brien, McMillan, Dwan. The Temuka Presbyterian Tennis Club will be represented by the following players in its match with Winchester this afternoon (cars leave courts at 1.30 p.m.)—Ladies: Misses C. Roddick, M. Gibb, K. Gunnion, D. Buzau. Men; W. Lees, L. Maclachlan, D. Hopkinson, D. Kennedy. The St. Joseph’s Club’s team to play Orari, at Orari, is as follows: —Ladies: Misses P. Dwan, A. Hanifin, P. 'Spillane, Z. Dwan. Men: S. Ansford, W. Seder, W. Spillane, G. Collins. Heavy Rain Falls at Geraldine. The rain that lias been needed so badly for bringing on winter pastures began to fall in Geraldine on Thursday morning about three o’clock, and heavy showers continued throughout the day, and by nine o’clock the reading was 79 points. Intermittent falls continued all day, while the downpour set in heavier laic in the evening, and S 3 points of rain were registered for the 24 hours ending nine o’clock yesterday morning. It is estimated that about a further quarter of an inch fell during the day.
