RETIREMENT FROM THE GAMES. Vincent Richards, the holder of the American professional tennis title, who has announced his retirement from the game, joined the professional ranks in October, 1926. He is now 27 years of age, and he won his first national championship at the age of 14, when he carried off the Boy Championship of America. In 1926 he beat Tilden three times, represented America at Paris, Wimbledon, Eastbourne, Berlin and Prague, winning the French Doubles Championship with H. Kinsey, at Paris. He was in the final of the doubles at Wimbledon, retained the U.S.A. doubles championship, and represented America in the Davis Cup challenge round. He won the U.S.A. professional championship in 1927, and retained it for the following year. In 1929 he won the professional doubles championship.
