SCHOOL BREAK-UP.
“WHARE KIA ORA,” GERALDINE. The break-up ceremony in connection with Miss Sherratt’s private school, “Whare Kia Ora," took place on Thursday evening last, in the Presbyterian Hall. There was a large attendance. The hall had been prettily decorated with foliage, and vases of vari-coloured flowers, and coloured streamers were suspended over the heads of the audience. Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., and Mrs Burnett were present, the popular member distributing the prizes. A feature was the numerous pictures, drawings, p°wj2j and other work of the pupi.J, which were hung on the walls, and which were of high merit. Mr Burnett congratulated Miss Sherratt on having again had a most successful year, and the two Education Board inspectors who had visited the school had given very good reports. The tone of the school was very high, and the results had been excellent. Mr Burnett spoke of the good musical results that had been obtained, and the scholars had well held their own in drawing and

Special Painting Competitions. “Youth” Competition: Joan Neill 1 and 3 for New Zealand, Beryl Twigg 1 for New Zealand, Desmond 1 for New Zealand, Marjory Willis 2 for Xew Zealand, Colleen McKenzie and Phillippa Bristol highly commended. Music Prizes (Miss Kelmans). —— Cora Flatman (honours), highest marks for theory; Joyce Hewson, highest marks for pianoforte. Music Results. 1929.—Rudiments for A.T.C.L. Higher Local, Cora Flatman. At the conclusion of the prizegiving, on the call of Mr Burnett, three hearty cheers were given for Miss Sherratt. Mr Burnett then wished the “Whare Kia Ora" pupils a. happy Christmas and prosperous Now Year, and the singing of the National Anthem brought a very successful evening to a close.
