DOCTOR’S TRAGIC END.
SPLASHED WITH CARBOLIC ACID. Dr. A. C. Mathieson, who .was resident medical officer at Gore Hospital, met a tragic death at midday on Sunday, through a bottle of carbolic acid she was handling being broken. The acid splashed over her body and face, and immediately began its deadly work. She suffered severely from shock, and quickly became unconscious. She died in about three hours.
The late Dr. Alexandra Carson Mathieson was a twin daughter of the late William Mathieson, superintendent of Police, who died at Dunedin some two years ago. Dr. Mathieson, who was 29 years of age, received her education at the Mornington Public School, and the Otago Girls’ High School. She subsequently attended the medical school at' the Otago University, and in 1927, graduated M. 8., Ch.B. Some four months ago she was appointed medical officer at Gore Hospital, and prior to that had acted as house surgeon at the Dunedin Hospital. She was an efficient officer, and was popular with the patients and staff. She is survived by her mother, who resides at Mornington, Dunedin, her older sister, who is married to Mr AV. AV. Millar, Invercargill, and her twin sister, Annie, who is unmarried, and lives with her mother..
