ROLL OF HONOUR.

FOR GOOD ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL.

AN ATTRACTIVE SCROLL

The newly-published roll of honour at present displayed in Mr McMillan’s stationer’s window, 'King street, Temuka, is attracting a good deal of favourable comment. The publisher, Mr A. H. Reed, Dunedin, has produced a most artistic and dignified roll, designed with the laudable purpose of promoting regular attendance at school. Every child who wins a good attendance certificate, i.e., has not been more than five half-days, absent during the year, also has his name added to the roll of honour, with a seal showing his achievement, in gold if the attendance is a perfect one. There is space for nine years’ attendance, thus providing for the whole of a child’s school life. The roll is intended to be hung in the school where it can be seen by visitors, parents and inspectors. The particular roll displayed is the property of the Winchester School, and the Committee has had it tastefully framed in oak panelling. It contains the names of 30 pupils who during the past four years have been winners of good attendance certificates. The first name on the, roll is that of Flora White, who has this year qualified for her ninth good attendance seal and seven years of whose record were without a single half-day’s break. A sister, Mary White, has eight gold seals to her credit, signifying a perfect primary school record. Conspicuous on the roll is the Kernohan family, six of whom have earned good attendance certificates, although living nearly four miles from the school. Altogether, they have nineteen seals to the family credit, seven of which are for perfect attendance —surely a splendid performance.
