At the monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Power Board, it was decided to go on with the Peel Forest extension.

A notice intimating that the Temuka Domain Board has granted the Temuka Caledonian Society the exclusive use of that portion of the Domain set aside for recreation purposes, on Tuesday, December'S?? appears in this issue.

The monthly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Temuka on Tuesday was a very lengthy one. Starting at 10.30 a.m.,'with only a short intermission for lunch, it was after 5 p.m. before the last case was finished; Our report of the sitting will be found on our first, third, and fourth pages.

The public are reminded of the sale of the surplus of the blacksmith and wheelwright stock-in-trade, in the assigned estate of Mr A. M. The British Pavements Co., Ltd. (N.Z.), contractors for bitumenising. a section, of the Main South Road, from the Temuka town boundary to tbo Arowhenua bridge, have made a start with the work and completed the laying of the first coat for a number of chains. Before the end of the week, probably seven or eight chains will be done. The final coat will be put on in February.

The St. Joseph’s School football team had a fairly successful season, having won the 0 grade medals at the Timaru and Pleasant Point schools tournaments; A few days ago, they waited on their coach, Mr T. Dwan, and presented him with a 50-hox of cigars. In making the presentation, Master- S. Shaw spoke very highly of-the painstaking and efficient manner-in which Mr Dwan had coached . the team. Mr Dwan, In reply, thanked the boys for their gift, and said that bo very much ap-preciated-it. :

j Mr D. McAuliffe, an, employee of, the Temuka Insulators Co., Ltd., j met. with., an accident on Tuesday ! afternoon. It appears that he was digging insulator clay from, a big

heap, when a slip and a considerable amount of the clay fell on to him. He was soon extricated by,his fellow-workmen, and medical" aid,, obtained, with the result that be was ordered into the Timaru Hospital for X-ray examination. It is believed that his injuries are confined mostly to his left shoulder.

In another column, Mr A. R. Beck, ladies’ and gents’ hairdresser, Temuka, has a special announcement informing readers that he has secured the services of Mr Bert. Smith, a hairdresser well and favourably known in Temuka, and can now offer first-class service in the ladies’ and gents’ departments of/the business. There is a special saloon for the ladies. A meeting was held on Tuesday night of the combined committee and Ladies’ Guild in connection with the Temuka Methodist Church. The Rev. R. Richards occupied the chair. After discussion, it was resolved to hold a~ church bazaar, in the„form of a Japanese fair, about the last week in February. A strong committee was set up to organise the effort, and also to go Into the matter of competitions to be run in connection with it. The various stalls were suggested, and a director appointed in connection with each one. A. further committee meeting will be held on Friday.
