TEMUKA BAND.

OPEN-AIR CONCERTS.

During the week-end the Municipal Band, under Conductor R. G. Allen, gave two open-air performances at Temuka, the, music provided eliciting many expressions of pleasure from those who gathered to hear them. Ten new uniforms have recently been procured, and the old uniforms having been renovated, the Band looked very smart and trim.

On Saturday evening, the Band paraded Ring street, in full uniform, and played the contest quickstep, “The Exile,’’ while on the march, and several other marches, all. being appreciated by the public. On Sunday evening the Band gave a sacred concert in the Domain, before a large audience. The Band was again in full uniform, which gave it an excellent appearance. The programme opened with the march, “The Old Home Town,” which was followed by the selection, “Parsifal,” which the Band gave in fine style. The euphonium solo, “Land of Hope and Glory,” “Eventide,” “In Ole Kentucky,” and the hymn “Nearer My God to Thee,” were other items on the programme. The cornet solo, “The Bostonian” (polish-), given by Conductor R. G. Allen, was the outstanding feature of the concert. The march, “The Conqueror,” followed by “God Save the King,” closed the programme. The collection taken during 'the week-end, at both functions, .showed the sympathetic interest the people of Temuka are taking in their Band, The sum of £G was taken at the Bark, and £4 14s Id at the Post Office, a total of £lO 14s Id, which is greatly appreciated by the Committee and the Band.
