On Thursday a severe change m the weather was Experienced, for after, a warm afternoon a sou'easter came up at about half past four and increased to a gale. A v six o'clock a heavy downpour of g hall fell which fortunately was but 3 of short duration, and .later when i the sky cleared it was bitterly cold, J a slight frost being experienced. ( Ten points, of rain were registered, j The efficacy of advertising has j been amply demonstrated on" a i couple of occasions recently, for « advertisements brought into the ; "Leader" office liaye'resulted in lost articles being found without J the necessity of the advertisements . appearing in the paper. Yesterday, , a five pound note was lost, and on ; the lost advertisement being set up in metal, the owner came into the office to report he had found it. Ahem! The gale on Thursday gave a couple of motorists a good deal of trouble for, on leaving t,he Ohape stud sale at Milford- they were unable to get their cars into high gear on account of the intensity of the wind, and had to proceed over a'quarter of a mile before they could effect a change of gears. There were many changes in the weather at Geraldine W Thursday, The morning was cool, and slightly overcast, but the afternoon up to 4.30 ws very warm. A sharp shower of rain fell, but did not last long, and intense heat followed', this for half an hour, when a 'howling west, south-west storm blew up and the temperature fell to an intense cold. The wind made things very unpleasant. This blew over, and accompanied by growls of thunder went out' to sea. About six o'clock : another storm accompanied 'by thunder, N came up from the same direction, and for about half a minute rain-fell.-• Fortunate-, ly for the orchards' and crops, the hail storm was of very short duration, for the lumps fell, in the form of solid'ice blocks, of square and triangular character quite unlike the ordinary hail stones. The night was cold-with a slight frost towards morning, /which broke clear and -sunny. Amongst some good anedotes o£ his experiences as a Home Mission i ary, related at the meeting in con- - nection'with Bible-in-Schoole, Mr L. • M. Isitt related an experience or ' ' his when at Dunedin. 'He used to • row across tine haiibbur there to. : 'preach at Broad Bay on the other - side, and, one day. his boat upset J and in getting it righted, 'he. got, - wet through. When he arrived at his destination he was met by an t irate church officer who told him he » was very late, and the congrega- , tion had been waiting some time 1 for him. He had proceeded ,to explain the mishap wlrioh had nap-. • pened to him, but' met with little t sympathy ,;"Nt|ver mind! that," < the official .had said, "you'll) he 4ry S enough i when. ye*, get into the piil- " pit:" ' Mr L. M. Isitt, when, speaking on - the Bible in schools' question, -fold t a story against himself, which illuse trates the little home life the averU age busy Parliamentarian gets ', when the House is sitting. One day e he was at, home and had occasion '- to rebuke his young son for some '- trifling matter. The boy said no-. thing to him, but later on his moth<l er told him that the boy had asked S her when that man who was staying with them would go away. The s boy did not know he was. his raft ther.
