Police Station, Temuka.. Dear Cousin Wattle Blossom,—This is my first letter I have written to you. 1 have just started school, and it is not very nice after the holidays. I enjoyed my holidays very much. I went away for three weeks, and I had a stunner time. I am leaving to swim now. and am not doing so bad for a start; We went for a picnic down to the river, and I had a lovely time. From GEORGE DWAN. Bangitata Island, 5-2-27.' j Dear Cousin Wattle Blossom, —The day we broke up from school we went to Timaru for a picnic and had good fun on the beach. We ran races and I won 2s. On the Friday night we had a dance, and our prizes wore given out, and I got a book called " Tho Brown Book for Boys." I went to Christchurch after that with my aunt. My grandfather's place is on top of the hills at Redclill's, and when you look down you can see the Estuary and Shag Rock, Monk's Bay and Clifton, and round another hill is Sumner. Jo the evening you can see the lights at Brighton, also the little fishing boats on the, Estuary. My grandfather took me into Chrrstchurch and wo went to the pictures. I bought a steam engine for (is 6d, and there is a little lamp in it to put methylated spirit in, and then light it, and there is a boiler that you put water in,' and put the spirit lamp under it, when the water boils it starts going. I have had it driving my Meccano models, and it will go for 20 minutes. It has a whistle. I came home from Christchurch by myself on the express. On the Friday before Christmas Mr and Mrs Brodie gave a uarty to all the island children. We had a lovely time playing- games, and at 0 o'clock uncle Jack, of Christchurch, spoke to us on the wireless, and told each child where their presentli were, and I found mine in the potato patch, also my sister's. It was real fun finding them out. Mr Brodie came round in the motor car to pick us all up, and after the party he took us back home. I Avas out in the harvest paddock watching the binder and Blockers work, and the engine and mill threshing dad's oats. I used to take the lunch out to the harvesters while the holidays were on. My two cousins fronfAshburton were staying here, and we had jolly fun. We used to go to the creek nearly every day, paddling in tho water, and one day my two cousins fell in and got wet through We caught a lot of tadpoles, and have

j some in the horse trough. My little | sister has great fun fishing them out with my mother's soup ladle. The tadpoles are interesting to watch, and when it is sunny they conic to the top of the water. Some of them have Mioir hind legs out. now 1 helped dad keep house while my mother, Mary, and Frances went to Christchurch for a holiday. We also trapped rabbits during the holidays, and altogether we had a very good time. We started school last Tuesday*. From your cousin, JOHN MILLER. .
