TIMARU BAND.

AT GERALDINE. The Timaru Municipal Baud came up to Geraldine on Sunday and 1 played two splendid sacred music concerts in aid of the funds of the local Band. The first performance was an open air one in the Domain, which was greatly enjoyed by a large-number of people, despite the intense heat of Off degrees in the shade. The second concert was given in the Town Hall before a fair attendance, and this was like the,, afternoon performance a high class exhibition. After the performance, Mr Ralston, secretary of the Timaru Band, urged the people of Geraldine to give their own local Bund the support it merited. The people should support - their Band both morally and financially if it was to become proficient, for no matter bow they practiced or what line instruments they possessed, they could not become a good Band without the sup port of the people behind- them. The question for the people of Geraldine to ask , themselves was, whether they wanted a. Baud or not. What sort of a' Band could they put out if the Duke ami Duchess of York came to Geraldine tomorrow? Unless they supported their Baud, .they would never have one. A Baud should be capable of supporting itself without ha.ving to call in assistance from outside, although other Bauds were ’-willing to assist, it should not be necessary if their own townspeople supported them well. Mr Rustou thanked the Geraldine Baud for its hospitality. They, as a Baud, would extend' a hearty welcome to the Geraldine Baud to play at Caroline Bay, for they considered the Laud quite good enough to play on the Bay. They had good 1 material and the makings of a very good Band if the people of Geraldine would give them their support. (Applause). Mr J. Brett, on behalf of tire Ger uUlilie Baud, extended their thanks to the Timaru Bandsmen for their generosity in coming out, and for the splendid concert they had provided.
