Ai Cinderella dance will be belli In the Parish Hull on Wednesday next the 23rd inst. in aid of the Temuka Baud funds.' 'The committee have decided to try a new idea by supplying light refreshments at a Cinderella dance; and a cup of tea and eatables will be handed round. Displayed in Mr Neil McGregor’s shop window, Geraldine, at present are eight specimen blooms of Glacly ioli—rsplendid plants grown bj\ the Rev. H. Purchas. The varieties are Golden Measure (yellow), Liebesfeus (red), Lavender Mayor (pink); Rooget de Lisle (red), Chancellor (red), Helios (salmon pink), Victor (red), Madam Mound Sulley (white). MR H. L. The Geraldine County Council gang'will complete their work at Gapes Valley on Friday, and will come to Temuka on Saturday, commencing work on Monday pulling willows in the Temuka river, at Mr J. Bremner’s. On Tuesday they .will proceed to Mr Russell’s on the far • side of the Opihi, and on finishing there they will commence on the loan work at Winchester. M, C. C. Knight, Manager of the Geraldine Town Hall, has just completed his self imposed task of fitting newspaper racks in the Library reading room. They are fixed' to the eastern wlall and have a very neat and substantial , appearance. They will be greatly appreciated by the public, To-day being' the occasion of the ; annual school picnic, the Mayor of Temuka requests citizens to observe the day as a public holiday. The concrete foundations of the new grain store for the Temuka FlourmiHing Co. have been placed in position, and the builder, Mi' R. Jamieson, is proceeding with the erection of the building. The new chancel of the St. Peters Anglican Church, Temuka is now nearing completion, the contractors, Messrs Harding and Co., expecting to finish about the end of next week. The new addition to the church will he dedicated in due course hy the Bishop of Christchurch. A sacred concert will be rendered by the Geraldine .Band in the Temuka Domain on Sunday next at 2.30 p.m., and also on the same evening at the Dominion Theatre at 8.15 p.m. The proceeds are in aid of the Temuka Municipal Band funds. Last week a house and two valuable building sections situated at the corner of Wai-iti road amf Evans Street, Timaru, were offered by auction. The house failed to find a purchaser, and was passed In at £4OOO, and a separate section on Wai-iti road was sold to the Misses Bremner, Temuka. Geraldine has again undergone a severe atmospheric change. The themometer. reached 95' degrees in the shade on Sunday, afternoon, the highest of and’ob (Mjomday bine highest .reading was 70, a drop of 25 degrees in twenty , four hours. In the report which appeared .in the : Guardian on Tuesday in connection with Geraldine having won the South Canterbury Bowling Rink Championship, it was mentioned that it was the first time the 1 Club had done so. It has been pointed out that this is not correct, for that in .1914 a iGeraldine Rink composed of Messrs G. B. Creemer (e), A. Stringer, C. Stock, and: the late Dr. . Fergus Paterson, won the Rink Championship for the Geraldine Club. It is noteworthy that Mr C. Stock was also a member of the rink which won last Saturday.

At the Borough Council meetinglast night the Mayor, Mr G. B. Cartwright, referred ' to the death Of Lady Ward, who took a great interest in ! the social welfare of the people of the town and district in which she lived. He was sure they ail regretted her death very much He also referred to the late Mrs Gaze, who omje lived: in Temuka, and was a large hearted lady of generous disposition. She was his first school, teacher at Pleasant ■ Point and he: never forgot her. When Cr Gunnion and Mmseif visited' the North Island' three years ago they made a special trip to see her. He moved that a motion of sympathy be passed to Sir Joseph,Ward and family,'and Mr Gaze and family, 'Councillors standing as the motion was passed. .

The work of laying down the new tennis courts for the Presbyterian Church on the railway reserve at Railway Terrace is now proceeding apace. The reserve covers an area of about half an acre and the space for two courts, 94 feet by SO feet which allows for a few feet each end to spare, has been taken down :to the solid clay foundation, and the first layer of two inches of asphalt placed in position. This will be topdressed and tarred and sanded, and a fall of five inches has been allowed to each end from the centre to prevent water lodging on ■the court. ,An extra 11 feet of grass lawn is being provided for at elach end, and. the balance of the\ area is to be put down in grass for a croquet lawn, The contractors, Messrs f J.' Ft -Daly and P. Moran, have been most painstaking in their work. u

I The first meeting for the year in connection with the Methodist Ladies’ Guild took place at Mrs R. Longson’e residence on Wednesday afternoon, when there was - a large attendance of the ladies. The Rev, R. Richards welcomed) the members on behalf of the Church, and spoke of the valuable work accomplished by the giiiklc Matters in connection with a proposed bazaar or special effort to take place during the year wore discussed and it was resolved to call a general meeting on Wednesday night next to discuss the matter more fully. Rev. Richards also announced that last year was the fifty, years jubilee of the Temuka Methodist Circuit, hut that the occasion had been overlooked. It was agreed to make a special jubilee anniversary effort during the present year. A very pleasing fame tion took ■ place during the afternoon, when Miss Brown made reference to the fact .that Mrs Longson, senr, was the one remaining member of the original ladies’ guilds and that she had retained an unbroken membership of the guild for over forty years. Mrs Longson has just passed her SOM birthday. Mrs Duncan, the president, congratulated Mrs Longson and, called on Mrs Elder, as the next oldest member to make a presentation. Mrs Elder in a fitting little speech spoke of Mrs Longson’s excellent record and good work for the Guild,, and asked’ her to accept a handsome xylonite toilet set as a small token of the esteem of her fellow members. Several others also spoke, and Mrs Longson briefly returned her thanks and spoke of (he _ ure she had in : working for (he church. ' ' ;
