DRUIDS’ BALL.

TORCHLIGHT PROCESSION. A BRILLIANT SPECTACLE. The Temuka Druids’ annual ball held last night in the Drill Hall, was a huge success, and was certainly one of the best functions of the season. Prior to assembling at the Hall, the Druids marched in a torchlight 1 procession from the Lodge room, via Studholme and High streets. Railway terrace, and down the main thoroughfare to the Drill Hall. The Temuka Pipe Band, headed the procession, and enlivened the proceedings with martial music. Follows ing was a decorated car symbolical iof the Lodge and members clothed in white marched behind. A brilliant spectacle presented itself, as, marching to the tune from the pipers, Arch-Druid Bro. Jamie* son and Mrs G. B. Cartwright, followed by His AVorship the Mayor, Mr G. B. Cartwright, and Mrs Jamieson, led off the Grand March, The hall itself was tastefully decorated witlu. coloured streamers hanging from the roof, and the walls were relieved with varied greenery, while the charming dresses of the ladies and the insignia worn by the members gave a finished touch to the scene.

From the staging, surmounted by a decorated arch -with the U.A.O.D. shield, the sweet tones of the dance music from Miss Dewar’s Orchestra flooded the ballroom, over a hundred couples taking advantage of a perfect floor to enter into the gala spirit of the evening. Messrs W. Lawlor and Fdsher carried out tlie duties of M.C.’s with efficiency hud tact, and a splendid supper which was done full justice to, reflected the greatest credit on Mrs C. J. > Taylor and her assistants. To augment the numbers present were a number of visitors from Timaru, including fellow Druids from that town.

The committee are to be congratulated on the pronounced success of the evening, and special praise is dueV to Mr J. Allfrey (chairman) and Mr A. R. Beck (secretary).
