BUSINESS MEN'S ASSOCIATION.
GERALDINE. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Geraldine Business Men's Association was held in Mr J. Kennedy's rooms on Wednesday evening, a good attendance being presided over by Mr Kennedy. Prior to taking the ordinary business, a motion of sympathy with the Rev. H. Purchas, in the bereavement he has suffered through the loss of his wife, was passed, all standing in respectful silence. It was resolved to send a letter of sympathy to Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., in his illness, wishing him a speedy recovery. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read from the Chief Police Inspector, Timaru, stating that in accordance with the Association's request, a constable had been sent to Geraldine. The letter was received with thanks.
.In answer to a letter from the secretary (Mr J. B. Stewart), thanking him for the manner in which he hadr acceded to the request for a Junior High School for Geraldine, and congratulating him on his elevation to the office of. High Commissioner, and wishing him bon voyage, Sir James Parr telegraphed acknowledging the letter and thanking the Association for its good wishes.
It was decided to form a Retailers' Subcommittee under the Association, to deal with matters of interest in their business. The committee is to report to the Aesociation.
Messrs H. Broad and J. D. McKechnie were elected new members. It was resolved to take a full page in the Canterbury Motorists' Guide Book, at £6 6s, which includes 100 free copies of the book. It takes in the country lying between Kaikoura on the north and to .the Waitaki on 'the south. At a meeting of the Retailers' Committee held subsequently, it was decided that.a full committee meeting be held on June 25 to appoint a chairman and discuss matters.
