THE WEATHER.

After a week of unsettled weather heavy rain set in at Geraldine on Tuesday evening and lasted all night. Sixty-four points of rain fell up to 9 o’clock, and at noon it was still coming down in torrents. The rainfall at Winchester up to 4 p.m. yesterday' was 223 points, whilst 21G points were registered at Temuka. Heavy rain fell during Thursday night and yesterday morning, the culverts in the malin .street being _ taxed to the utmost in providing a getaway for the flood water. At -Messrs Capper and Sheen’s corner the water came over the footpath and caused .some inconvenience to passereby. One lady in going into the shop had the misfortune to trip and fall into the water. Before noon the rain eased off considerably • and the streets’ were free from Jr water, showing the efficiency of the drainage.
