Mr and Mrs G. I. Hamilton, Orar.i, are In Christchurch. Miss L. Hawke (Geraldine) is in Christchurch. Miss Philippa Hamilton has returned to Christchurch after a visit to Mrs A. B. Temple (“Castlewood,” Geraldine). 'Mrs Cook and Miss Coreen Cook have returned to Timaru from Geraldine. Misses A. and D. Beaton, who arrived on Tuesday afternoon from Tautapere, will spend a few days in Temnka prior to proceeding to Kaikoura. They are the guests of Mrs M. Waaka. Colonel Hunter, Director of School Dental Services, is at present visiting Temnka. Last evening he attended a meeting of the representatives of School Committees in the Temnka district, regarding the establishment of a School 1 Dental Clinic in the district. Mr Ben Hughes, oif Western Australia, is visiting his 'brother, Mr W. Hughes, of the Bank of Australasia, Temuka. He is accompanied by Mrs Hughes. They intend to visit Lake Tekapo and ML Cook before leaving at the end of the week for Perth, via Sydney and Adelaide.

At Tuesday night’s meeting of the South Canterbury Cricket Association, the presidenj! (Mr B. R. Macdonald) made reference to the work carried out by the. Association’s secretary (Mr A. E. Izzard), who, he said, had worked iudefatigaibly in Hie interests of cricket. Mr Izzard briefly replied. New Zealanders generally and Wanganui residents in particular, will be delighted to read of (he successes of Mr A. E. Porrilt, New Zealand’s Rhodes Scholar at. Oxford (says the Wanganui “Herald”). Advice has been received that Mr Porritt has just gained his B.A. degree at Oxford with second-class honours. In view of his numerous al.hlert.lc and public engagements in England, America and on the CouItinenl, which necessarily take up a considerable amount, of time, the success of the Dominion's representative is most meritorious.
