PARLIAMENT.
CLOSE OE THE SESSION. PRIME MINISTER’S STATEMENT. ,Mr H. E. Holland, Leader of the Labour Party, asked the Prime Minister in the House on Monday whe-. ther lie could yet give members any idea of the day when Parliament would close, and any idea of the date of the General Election. Mr Coates replied that he saw no reason why members should not he getting away to their homes by Wednesday night. The difficulty was that some legislation had yet to be completed, but he expected that moat of it would 'be before .members by the followingr afternoon. As to /the date of the election, he would be breaking an unwritten rule that had been followed in the past were he to announce 'that now. It had been the prerogative of the Government to say whsn the elections should take plane, and he understood they always kept the date to themselves. He could say, however, that it would be early in November, probably in the first •week. The exact date be was unable to give. “H everything goes Well with our business,” lie said, ‘ithe election will be in the firs/t week of November.” Mr Holland: You will not make it November stlil (Laughter).
