SALE OF WORK.
AT TEMUKA. The annual sale of work and produce i n connection with St..Peter's Church, Temuka, was held in 'the Parish Hall on Thursday afternoon and was very successful. Stalls were arranged around the walls of the building, and being well stocked and decorated with very well. The following is a list of the stalls and their attendants:'— Work: Mrs Hayhurst, Mrs John Talbot, and Miss Phillips. Fancy: Mrs Routledge and Mrs Foxon. Sweets; Mrs F. \W Salmon, and Mrs and Miss Twentyman. Produce: Mrs Routledge, Mrs Talbot, and Mrs Green. Refreshments: Mrs J. Oliver, Mrs Stanley, Mrs Shiels, and Mrs Askin. (The tea tables were set out on the stage, an excellent arrangement).
Bran Tub: Miss Greaves. The sale was opened at 2 o'clock, and although the weather was cold and there was another gathering being held in the town, the attendance was good, the stallholders ' were soon busy, and by evening the depleted state of the stalls.showed that business had been satisfactory.
In the evening a short, but very good, concert was given, the Rev. P. 11. PrilchefL presiding. The performance was opened with an overture by. Mrs Salmon which was. well rendered and elicited.much applause Mr C. Cornwell followed with a solo, "Shipmates of Mine," to which he did full justice, and in response to an encore sang '.'Coming Home." Mrs Stanley gave a. delightful rendering of "Until," and for an encore "My Rosary," in which she was equally, successful. ,Miss Fen n treated th e gathering to a pretty dance, which she performed most gracefully, and was accorded a well-earn-ed encore after which Miss Ives sang; with much expression, "Cupid in the Moon." Th e young lady was also encored and responded with another pretty song. The programme was brought to a close with a fine song by Mr W. Hughes < 'Come to the Fair," one of the best items of the evening, and for an encore number he . sang "Rosebud ,'' a dainty little song that was thoroughly enjoyed. The audience would fain have had more, but as a gift auction was to follow this could not be. On the motion of the Rev. P. H. Pritchett a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the performers. Mr A. I-L Fenn, who, as the Chairman mentioned, had just arrived after a long journey from liivercar-. gill, then auctioned the unsold goods, for which there was a ready demand, and a clearance was soon made. At the conclusion the auctioneer was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and this brought the function to a close
