WINTER SCHOOL FOR FARMERS.
(Under direction Mr A. H. Cockayne, Government Biologist). Sir, —The Winter Farm School to be held under the direction of the Department of Agriculture at Ashburton in May, promises to be a great success. Mr A. H. Cockayne, Government Biologist, will bo director of the School. The lecture programme includes a wide range of subjects, each one being of vital interest to farmers and those concerned with. Agricultural education. The lecturers are all men with a sound knowledge of their
subject, and those who attend the school are assured of a profitable week. The general idea is that the forenoons will be occupied by lectures, and the afternoons by field demonstrations, and the evenings by popular lectures. Accommodation is being arranged for those coming from a distance, everything being provided at a rate of approximately 10s per day pci' man. In addition to the school be-
ing a week of instruction, ii will also bo a week of social inteiest, as the entertainment side of the undertaking is in tlie hands of a local committee well-known for its energy and success. There is a possibility of a party of farmers attending from the WestCoast, under the auspices of the Westland Progress League, so it will be wise for Canterbury and North Otago men who intend to be present to get into touch with the Instructor in Agriculture, Department of Agriculture, Christchurch, requesting that accommodation be reserved for them.

The Farm Garden, R. Nairn. Wednesday: Irrigation, its possibilities in Canterbury, R. S. Tennant, N.D.D. Farm Management in relation to fertility, J. Brown, B.Sc Water Conservation in Soil. M. J. Scott M.A. The Dairy Cow, H. E. B. Watson. Stroll, Ashburton Experimental Farm. Education in relation to Agriculture, Professor Shelley.
