SEVEN-A-SIDE

The Ashburton County Rugby Union’s annual seven-a-side competition attracted a very large gathering to the Ashburton Domain on Saturiay. Fifty-eight teams entered, and the best clubs from all parts of Canterbury were represented. The 1 finals were as follows:

Seniors.—Timaru Old Boys (G. Lawson, W. Lawson, A. Lawson, S. Mason. W. Doull, S. Craven-, and R. Stewart.) 11* v. Christchurch Old Boys 0. Juniors.—Pleasant Point 6 v. Pareora 0. Third Grade.—Allenton 5 v. Tinwakl 3. Fourth Grade.—Geraldine A 3 v. Ashburton Technical 0. On Saturday, Canterbury defeated Auckland at Rugby football by 31 points to 15. The New Zealand University team boat the visiting Sydney Unviersity * fifteen by 23 points lo 22. A close game at Invercargill ended in a victory for Southland over Taranaki by 6 points to 3. At Dunedin on Saturday Otago beat North Otago by 63 points to 3.

TEMUKA v. RANGIORA. Temuka fourth grade played Ran-* giora on Saturday in the Victoria , Park, there being a large attendance * of spectators. The visitors were much heavier than the local boys. Tiie game was of a fast nature, and resulted in a win for the local boys by 0 points to 3. For the winners, J, Moulton scored a try, which Marlin converted, and Martin also potted a goal. Mr J. Scott was referee. Mr Thomson, Dominion Hotel, Timaru, gave .a medal for iho best Tenuika player in the match and this was awarded to E. Martin. After the match the teams were entertained by the Temuka Club in MBudd’s tea rooms. The visitors lift by the evening express for Rangiora. It is hoped that the Temuka lads will pay a visit to Rangiora in about a fortnight’s time, and play a return match.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ TOURNEY.

The annual primary schools’ tournament commenced at Tahuna Park, Dunedin, on Saturday, one match being play in the morning and the other in the afternoon as a curtain miser to the Otago v. North Otago match. Southland beat North Otago by 4 3 points to nil, and Canterbury beat Otago by 7 points to G.
