THE IRISH REBELLION.
ULSTER AND FREE TRADE PACT. LONDON. August 9. 'lt is reported from Ireland that a settlement is imminent between the Free State and Ulster. The refugees of Strabane are preparing to return to their homes in the six counties. No confirmation of the report is obtainable in London, the authorities disclaiming knowledge of any negotiations. The Publicity Department In Dublin is unaware of the reported negotiations with, Ulster for a settlement. They are not regarded as likely in the present circumstances. OUTRAGES BY REBELS. The rebels destroyed a mansion at Brookfield, Tullamore, owned by Lady Bury, including valuable paintings and costly furniture. The rebels at Cork sank a large steamer at the mouth of the Lee. completely closing the port, and' adding to the menace of famine. Armed men raided Guinness’s brewery at Dublin, and held up the staff with revolvers. They took £2OOO. AROUND CORK. INTENSITY OF SNIPING. LONDON, August 10. Free Staters are reported to have landed at two points near Cork and at Cork. Owing to the intensity .of sniping between Cork and Queenstown, the Admiralty has issued a warning that it is undesirable to clear vessels for Cork. ’ Rebels threaten to treat as combatants railwayman assisting in the transportation of Free Strte troops. Rebels have been driven out of Ahbeyfeale and Drumcollogher, their last strongholds in Limerick. REBELS COMPLETELY ROUTED. DUBLIN, August 9. General O’Duffy, Teviewhlg the military situation, says the Irregulars have now been completely routed from the City of Limerick, and hold no post in Tipp'erary except possibly Clonmel, though they continue to harass the civilian population in a few quarters. Telegraphic communication between Dublin and Limerick has been restored. and mails are now delivered for the first time for months.
