The settlers are not eager to do more than they have already done and in any case vould not have the. necessary strength available tor

It was agreed to accept Mv Dobson's offer to clear Reserve ISM for ,CS, Cr McCullough, on behalf ol the Lower Waitohi settlers, thanked Mr Hrenmer for the excellent work he had made of the Kakahu Crossing. The matter of Mr Ashby s application for a stock bridge near Rcid's hut was held over in the meanwhile. The matter of Bunion's Crossing Bridge was also held over. It was stated the- Council had no authority to accept, .i loan en me bridge without holding a poll, and providing security. The Engineer was authorised to extend to the full width culverts at the water race crossings between Geraldme and the Upper Orari Bridge. It was also decided that the traction engine be overhauled. He also drew attention to a dam having been erected by Mr Dale in the road drain, which was having a bad on properties adjoining, asking that the County Engineer insist oii its removal. —The Engineer stated "that estimates of alternative timber and; concrete proposals were prepared and the ground had been inspected, and particulars duly forwarded to the High School Board. No reply had been received. The Department of Internal Affairs wrote that the Geraldine County River District Act comes into force on April Ist 1922. The river district comprises the County of Geraldine, but does not include the Borough of Geraldine, and provision in Section 6 do not apply in that Borough. If it wished to include the Borough this must be effected bv a petition from a majority of ratepayers, and the Board if it considers land within the Borough derives benefit from operations of the Board, may present a petition for the inclusion of such lands in the river district:—Received. The Council agreed to support a Napier Borough Council resolution asking Government to introduce legislation providing that credit balances on other accounts as regards

payment of interest on the latter accounts. , ■ The Otago Hospital Hoard asked the Council to endorse their protest aeainst the increased fee charged tcr audit, which was now £3 3s a day of seven hours or 9s per hour. The previous rate was £2 per day of six hours.or Os Sd. per hour. —The Coun- t cil supported the protest; { PLEASANT VALLEY HALL. { The chairman stated that the J, Geraldine Road Board some years e ago promised to contribute £SOO to ; the above hall from the funds of tlv> l } Hobson Trust, as money came toy hand The settlers of the Valley : were to find £IOO. They hud now c £1.70 in hand, so had done their share. The Council had endorsed this and they had .to settle that day j how much they could give thorn. ( GENERAL. , The Engineer reported damage done on the Kakahu Road from ( Pleasant Point, to Gardiner Bros, by heavy traction engine traffic. Lvsaght drew attention to the carting of heavy electric power poles to Orari, which had done a gvcc' deal of damage.—lt was uecided that Mr W. Double he appointed an inspector under the heavv traffic by-laws. Cr. J. J Ellis complained that a certain work had been effected without a resolution having been tabled authorising its being done. T'te chairman explained that the work was an urgent one, and the Coiuu'l had approved of it. Cr Ellis urged that the matter was an important I one and a resolution should Ime been recorded on the minutes. The Countv Clerk said that ho had not, entered the matter in the minutes, as no resolution had been passed. Members agreed that the Council had approved of the work. *>■ ANONYMOUS LETTERS.
