Madame Curie, to whom (he Women of America have presented a gramme of radium worth £25,000, comes of a family of scientists, and began, experiments on her own ac-count-when still a tiny girl, her inquisitiveness—which she declares to he the ‘'essential of scientific re-search’-—resulting on more than one occasion in nearly blowing her father’s laboratory and herself to bits. Her greatest happiness in those early days was watching hOr father conducting his experiments, and' it was largely the (raining received from him that enabled her, in conjunction with her husband. Pierre Curie, to carry through the long and delicate investigation resulting in (he great discovery of radium.
