The secretary of the batety ■ First” Campaign wrote stating that i with a view to educating the public [in traffic control the committee was * desirous of securing the services of Constable Simister (who had done i such excellent work in directing the ! traffic at the Hospital corner during I Carnival Week), to give a demonI istration of controlling all traffic for ; a week or two/ at the Bank of New Zealand corner. The Superintendent of Police was willing to make the necessary arrangements provided the Council consented to the proposal, and the committee asked that the necessary consent be given. If necessary, the committee would guarantee any extra expense incurred by the Police Department. The Council decided to gave the necessary consent and permit. 'The Traffic Committee, m the cou.rse of its report, that the Commissioner of Police had infonned the committee that in the opinion of the* Superintendent of Police, at least (three constables would be re-
