IRELAND.
LONDON, February 25. lu the House of Commons in Committee of Supply, Sir Hamar Greenwood said that the claims from Northern Ireland had been reduced from one third to half in a great majority of cases. The total value of the claims in Southern Ireland was about £9,000,000, of which about £1,000,000 was paid. The vote of £1,130,000, in aid of miscellaneous services, was carrifed after a division. While official circles in London are perplexed regarding the immediate future of the Irish question, the pro-Treaty «party at Dublin has opened election offices and is methodically inaugurating its campaign. The Republicans are likewise operating, issuing -weekly propaganda in wiiich the Treaty is attacked, a prominent contributor being Mr Barton, who, after signing the agreement, seceded to Mr de Valera. The rival factions in • Ulster are embarking on new strife, particularly in Armagh and Tyrdne, where police patrols were attacked by wandering bands who used bombs. It is proposed to organise special Catholic police for the Catholic districts in Ulster. The Northern Government agreed to enrol a number of Sinn Fein nonRepublican soldiers. A Cork report states that the British evacuation of Southern Ireland recommences on Monday. Mr Griffith and Mr., Duggan conferred with Mr Churchill and Lord Birkenhead. The conference will be continued on Sunday.
