The Ashburton tennis tournament this year started on Christmas Day. The entries were good, including players from Hawke's Bay, 'Wellington, Christchurch, Tlinaru, Teinuka, and other places. Miss Soutor and Mr l.aurenson, and beat them 9-(i. In tin; handicap doubles IV. Pcar.se and Sands won the final of the doubles, defeating another South Canterbury pair, 9-G. Altogether the meeting was a very enjoyable one, and most of (he 'players arc travelling down In Dunedin to take part in the \.Z. championships, which started ye-derday'and finish on January 2nd. Then l was a good attendance of spectators each day, and thehrilliant play at limes was loudly applauded.
