FAREWELLED.

THE REV. A. H. COUCH. The farewell social to the Rev- A. 11, Couch on Monday evening* last, in ■the Denmark Street Methodist '.Churchy was well attended. Mr G. Smart one of bis homely addresses on the duties and privileges of church life. The Rev. J. Guy addressed a few words of encouragement to the con l gregation and to tho departing missioner. In acknowledging the gift of a purse of sovereigns, made by Mr Smart on behalf of the congregation, Mr Couch expressed his appreciation of the kindness extended to him during his stay in Temuka, He could not hide the fact that, owing to a bereavement, it had ;been a trying year for him, but he had to thank. the congregation ioi" their, consideration and kindness, and the Giver of all good things for the good health that had been his share in Temuka. Ho expressed the hope for the growth of Methodism in I\ew Zealand, and 'that tho bond between King Street and Denmark Street Churches would be drawn closer; . at present they were likened to a man and his wife living apart; he hoped that when he next came their way, he would sec the happy couple under the one rooi. ('Laughter). The evcimg passed agreeably with items rendered by members of the choir, and a tasty supper by, the ladies was much enjoyed. Mr Guy mentioned that owirig. tojths shortage of ministers, the Denmark Street charge would be vacant for a while, the pulpit being supplied by the circuit: preachers in the district. Mr.Muy, urged the parishioners to proceed with their church and Sunday School work with unabated vigor, • and expressed the hops that in the aiblscnce of a minister the resources' of tho congregation would be drawn forth to the glory ot God and the Church. Tho Rev. A. H. Couch left for his Audi land North station by the first northward bound express,, yesterday.
